Plot Synopsis

Each year since 2011, the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) has held the CRITICS' CHOICE TELEVISION AWARDS, an offshoot of the CRITICS' CHOICE MOVIES AWARDS, that honors the best in television from the previous TV season -- from June of the previous year through May of the currrent year. In addition to giving kudos to the best drama, outstanding comedy and great performances, the CRITICS' CHOICE TELEVISION AWARDS also confers the Genius Award (previously known as the Icon Award) to one person who has entertained multiple generations of television fans. Past winners of the Genius Award include: Ryan Murphy (2014), Bob Newhart (2013) and Danny Devito (2011). Plus, each year the critics select the Most Exciting New Series, based on the pilot and any early episodes.

Hosted by Cat Deeley from The Beverly Hilton Hotel, the 5th annual CRITICS' CHOICE TELEVISION AWARDS aired live on A&E on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Charlize Theron presented the Critics' Choice LOUIS XIII Genius Award to two-time Emmy Award winner Seth MacFarlane, who has demonstrated unprecedented excellence in the television arts. Additional presenters include Johnny Galecki, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Allison Janney, Scott Bakula, Chris Colfer, Tracee Ellis Ross, Anna Faris, Angie Harmon, Josh Holloway, Gillian Jacobs, Jake Johnson & Max Greenfield, Michael Mando, Ben McKenzie, Bill Paxton & Olivier Martinez, Chelsea Peretti & Terry Crews, Matt Walsh & Tim Simons, and Constance Zimmer & Shiri Appleby. Plus, the CCTAs is immediately preceded by the live red carpet preshow, "Critics' Choice Red Carpet Live," hosted by Kevin Frazier and Samantha Harris at 7pm ET/4pm PT.
