Plot Synopsis

Created, written and produced by series star Michaela Coel, CHEWING GUM is a half-hour comedy series that follows religious, Beyonce-obsessed 24-year-old Tracey Gordon, who is fast finding out she should know a whole lot more -- and that's what makes her "education" so shockingly hilarious. And the more this twentysomething shop assistant learns about the world, the less she understands. But the virginal Tracey, who was raised in a strictly religious London Borough Tower Hamlets flat, is ready to finally realize her potential -- and the first step is having sex. She plans to go all the way with her reluctant and devout fiance Ronald, until she bumps into charming estate poet Connor. Even though her first sexual encounter leaves her panicked about pregnancy, she decides she needs to toss Ronald because she is determined to make Connor her new boyfriend. And just days later, she decides a threesome is the next step in her education about life. On Monday, October 31, 2016 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, CHEWING GUM made its U.S. premiere when Netflix released the entire first season. In July 2016, filming began on a six-episode second season.
Season 2 of CHEWING GUM had its U.S. premiere on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released the entire second season. The virginal Tracey, who was raised in a strictly religious Tower Hamlets flat, is ready to realize her potential. And the first step is having sex.
