Plot Synopsis

Each half-hour edition of THE CHECKUP WITH DR. AGUS features Dr. David Agus talking with A-list celebrities in emotionally revealing conversations about their personal and sometimes frightening health issues and the impact on their lives and families. Agus' encounters with these celebrated personalities take viewers on an intimate and inspirational journey that sheds new light on some of the health and wellness crises facing millions of Americans. Along the way, he shares information on game-changing technologies and treatments, information that will change and potentially even save lives. On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, Paramount+ released the first three episodes of the series:

"Ashton & Michael Kutcher": Ashton Kutcher shares his terrifying battle with a rare disease that almost took his life, and in their first interview together, he and his twin brother Michael share the emotional story of a childhood defined by extreme life and death health challenges. Michael talks about being born with cerebral palsy, then enduring a life-saving heart transplant at 13, and the brothers unravel a complicated relationship as twins with such different lives.

"Oprah Winfrey & Maria Shriver": Oprah Winfrey and her longtime friend, author and journalist Maria Shriver sit down with Dr. Agus to take an unflinching look at women's health, specifically a misunderstood and often mistreated issue: menopause.

"Howie Mandel": Comedian and television personality Howie Mandel talks to Dr. Agus about his debilitating, lifelong struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Joined by daughter Jackelyn, who suffers from her own OCD and anxiety, we discover how Howie's obsession with control has impacted his life, his career and the people he loves most.

The remaining three episodes dropped on Tuesday, December 13, featuring:

"Amy Schumer": Comedian Amy Schumer opens up about her past frightening habit of getting "black out drunk," her decades-long battle with reproductive health issues, her painful struggles with fertility, and a pregnancy that left her hospitalized several times before finally giving birth to her son. Schumer reveals her troubled family history of childhood traumas and mental health struggles.

"Nick Cannon": TV host, comedian, rapper, Nick Cannon reveals the story of his near-fatal Lupus diagnosis and the crushing loss of his infant son, Zen to a malignant brain tumor. In an intimate conversation with Dr. Agus, Nick opens up about how these heartbreaking, life changing events have become his greatest lessons.

"Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin": Longtime friends and Hollywood icons Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin tell Dr. Agus their secrets to longevity and aging gracefully. From the foods that keep them young to intimacy in their 80s and the benefits of cannabis on a good night's sleep, there is no topic that's off limits.
