Plot Synopsis

Based on Kem Nunn's novel of the same name, CHANCE is a provocative psychological thriller that focuses on Dr. Eldon Chance, a San Francisco-based forensic neuropsychiatrist, who reluctantly gets sucked into a violent and dangerous world of mistaken identity, police corruption and mental illness. After an ill-advised decision regarding Jaclyn Blackstone, an alluring patient who may or may not be struggling with a multiple personality disorder, Chance finds himself in the crosshairs of her abusive spouse, who also happens to be a ruthless police detective. After Chance investigates Jaclyn's last psychiatrist, a secret rendezvous with Jaclyn forces an ominous encounter. In over his head, Chance's decent into the city's shadowy underbelly, all while navigating the waters of a contentious divorce and the tribulations of his teenage daughter, soon spirals into an ever deepening exploration of one of mankind's final frontiers -- the shadowy, undiscovered country of the human mind. On Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Hulu released the first two episodes of CHANCE, with subsequent episodes released Wednesday mornings in the Fall.

On Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Hulu released the first three episodes of CHANCE's second season. In Season 2, after reluctantly getting sucked into a violent and dangerous world of mistaken identity, police corruption and mental illness, Eldon Chance comes out the other side a changed man. Whether that change is due to his having killed someone or the aftermath of his traumatic brain injury remains unclear. Along with his Nietzsche-quoting, knife-wielding, antique-furniture restoring friend D, Dr. Chance takes it upon himself to help his patients, all victims of violent crimes, by using vigilante justice to take out their abusers. But the events of last season catch up with him when Detective Kevin Hynes comes knocking. He knows what Chance did and he'll keep his secret -- as long as Chance uses his newfound vigilantism to help Detective Hynes take down an elusive serial killer. In the first three episodes:

"Multiaxial System": By day, Chance ministers to patients at the Victims of Violent Crime Unit; by night, he and D assault the victimizers. Detective Hynes blackmails Chance to use his skills to take down suspected serial killer Ryan Winter.

"A Very Special Onion": Attacked by Chance, Winter becomes a patient at the unit, with unintended results. D discovers Detective Hynes has a more personal connection to Winter's case than he originally let on.

"The Flitcraft Parable": D gaslights Winter in an attempt to make him open up to Chance in therapy and meets a girl in the process; with D's guidance, Nicole confronts a bully.
