Plot Synopsis

Inspired by Jerrod Carmichael's relationships with his say-anything contrarian father, therapist-in training girlfriend, ever-hustling brother and mother, this half-hour comedy series follows Jerrod and his girlfriend Maxine as the average young couple tries to make it in the city while navigating the boundaries of romance, family and sanity. They're smart, motivated and looking to build a fulfilling life together, but the only thing standing in their way is his family. Between Jerrod's larger-than-life brother, Bobby, and his smothering and passionate parents, Joe and Cynthia, Jerrod and Maxine are put to the test navigating the boundaries of romance, family and sanity. NBC premiered all six episodes of THE CARMICHAEL SHOW on three consecutive Wednesdays, showing back-to-back new episodes from 9-10pm ET/PT each night. On Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT, NBC premiered a brand-new episode of THE CARMICHAEL SHOW as a sneak peak of the show's second season. In the special sneak preview episode, "Everybody Cheats," Cynthia sees her friend's husband with someone who is not his wife, so the family comes together to discuss cheating and consequences. Jerrod is shocked when this family discussion reveals that Maxine is no stranger to infidelity. Season 2 premiered on Sunday March 13, 2016 from 9-10pm ET/PT with back-to-back new episodes on NBC. In the season opener (9pm), "Fallen Heroes," Maxine rejects Jerrod's invitation to a Bill Cosby concert, so he offers the tickets to his parents as an anniversary gift. The family is divided on whether or not you can appreciate entertainment free from scandal surrounding the entertainer. Then, in the night's second episode (9:30pm), "The Funeral," guest starring Marla Gibbs, Joe's father passes away, and the family debates the most appropriate way to handle his funeral. Because Joe had a complicated relationship with his father, who was anything but a role model, the Carmichaels weigh the pros and cons of traditional funeral pageantry versus a more accurate reflection of his life that may bring Joe some closure. Season 3 of THE CARMICHAEL SHOW premiered on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 9-10pm ET/PT, as NBC debuted back-to-back new episodes: "Yes Means Yes" (9pm): When Maxine's friend posts about her sexual assault on social media, Jerrod and Maxine end up on opposite sides of the issue. This opens the family up to a debate about consent that sends Bobby into a spiral. "Support the Troops" (9:30pm): When Jerrod gets into a fight with a soldier in front of Joe and Bobby, Joe's desire to make it up to the soldier causes problems that test the limits of what it means to truly support the troops.

On Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at a special time -- from 10-11pm ET/PT -- NBC premiered the series finale of THE CARMICHAEL SHOW, debuting back-to-back new episodes:

"Three Year Anniversary" (10pm): When the family discovers the unique way in which Jerrod and Maxine celebrated their dating anniversary, their disapproval forces Jerrod and Maxine to explore their potential inabilities to meet each other's expectations.

"Gold Diggers" (10:30pm): When Bobby brings home his new girlfriend, a debate about the effects of money ensues that uncovers something about Maxine's financial situation that Jerrod never knew and doesn't know if he can handle.
