Plot Synopsis

Using re-creations and first-person expert interviews, BLOOD FEUDS is a one-hour series that explores America's most iconic feuds to uncover fascinating pieces of hidden history. These epic rivalries feature some of the most compelling characters, action-packed conflict, and adrenaline-fueled showdowns: Bill the Butcher vs. John Morrisey, The Hatfields vs. the McCoys, Soapy Smith vs. Frank Reid, and more. These are the rivalries that defined American history, as foes became fatalities in the ultimate street fight for honor, power, and pride. In the premiere episode, BLOOD FEUDS reveals the true story behind the rivalry that inspired the blockbuster hit film, Gangs of New York. This notorious feud is one of the largest street wars in history -- a bloody battle over turf and politics. William Poole, better known as "Bill the Butcher," rules New York's viciously anti-immigrant nativist gang, the Bowery Boys, enforcers for the xenophobic Know Nothing political party. Irishman John Morrissey is said to have led the skull-cracking Irish Catholic gang called The Dead Rabbits -- the muscle of New York's Irish-led government, Tammany Hall. Additional episodes document: an epic Gold Rush showdown that pits legendary conman Jefferson "Soapy" Smith and his loyal "Soap Gang" against town organizer-turned-vigilante Frank Reid and the Committee of 101; The Hatfields (Devil Anse) versus the McCoys (Randall), which is one of the most notorious feuds in American history; two ranching families begin as friends but become locked in an epic battle known as the Pleasant Valley War; and more.
