Plot Synopsis

Set amongst the machinations of New York City power politics and finance, BILLIONS is a one-hour drama series that explores worlds of ultra-wealth, influence and corruption as personified in two highly ambitious opposing figures: hard-charging, blue-blooded, politically connected U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades and brilliant, calculating, blue-collar billionaire hedge fund king, Bobby 'Axe' Axelrod. Chuck is leading the fight against financial corruption in America. As the most powerful prosecutor in the country, he's won 81 insider trading cases -- and lost zero. But when criminal evidence turns up against Bobby, Chuck recognizes that he needs to proceed judiciously. As a self-made millionaire, Bobby enjoys all the trappings of his success: mansions, a private jet, a helicopter, and a personal chef. But he also doesn't forget his humble roots -- or the fact that he survived 9/11 by a fluke. Although his intentions are good, the temptations of greed and power are enormous and the lines between right and wrong in high finance are blurry at best, especially because Chuck's wife, Wendy, has used her background as a psychiatrist to help Bobby build his hedge fund from the ground up. Wendy joined Axe Capital long before Chuck became the U.S. Attorney, but she still works as the company's in-house performance coach, refusing to sacrifice her lucrative career for her husband's crusade. Bobby's wife, Lara, is the picture of a billionaire's wife, but her persona is entirely self-taught. A former nurse, she grew up in a blue-collar family of police and firefighters and still thinks of herself as a tough girl from Inwood. Both Chuck and Bobby have their own right-hand men: Wags, the COO of Axe Capital, is a patrician WASP who still has to work for a living, and no one has ever kissed ass with more aplomb; and Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan Connerty, a tough and idealistic lawyer from a modest background, who shares Chuck's zeal for righting wrongs while mentoring Assistant DA Kate Sacker.

The sophomore season of BILLIONS premiered on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on Showtime. The new season picks up immediately after the Season 1 finale, as hard-charging U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades squares off against billionaire hedge fund king Bobby 'Axe' Axelrod, scorching the earth in a costly war for personal domination. It's law versus money, with power, sex, and the soul of New York in the balance. Season 2 finds the characters vying for control in a changing world that presents an existential threat. For all of them, it's a choice between evolution and extinction. Guest stars this season include Rob Morrow, Dan Soder, Kelly AuCoin, James Wolk, Christopher Denham, Mary-Louise Parker, Danny Strong, Glenn Fleshler, Asia Kate Dillon and Eric Bogosian. In the Season 2 premiere, "Risk Management," U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades and hedge fund king Bobby Axelrod are digging out of the wreckage. Chuck faces scrutiny from within his office and from the Attorney General. Axe refortifies Axe Capital, and weighs his options for retaliation. The fund wrestles with a precarious economic landscape that threatens the very existence of Axe Cap. Wendy entertains an offer from a rival hedge fund manager. Lara intervenes in an emergency at her children's school.

Season 3 of BILLIONS premiered on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on Showtime. The new season finds Chuck Rhoades and Bobby Axelrod in a world that has shifted on its axis. Both men are still determined to destroy the other, but must also battle for their own survival amid new forces and powerful enemies. Wendy Rhoades, Chuck's wife and Axe's performance coach, is all in for both of them, an uneasy and dangerous position for her, and one that ultimately puts her to a decision that could alter the direction of her life irrevocably. Money, power, justice and revenge are all on the line for each of these characters. Clancy Brown guest stars this season as Waylon "Jock" Jeffcoat, the new Attorney General, who has a compelling portfolio of accomplishments, a wicked intellect and a serious interest in both Chuck and Bobby Axe. In the season opener, "Tie Goes to the Runner," Chuck gets a mandate from a new boss; Axe braves a difficult choice following his indictment; Taylor generates a monster strategy; Lara threatens to pull her money from Axe Capital; Sacker strives to prove herself.

On Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT, Showtime premiered the fourth season of BILLIONS. Bobby Axelrod and Chuck Rhoades, former enemies, and Wendy Rhoades, the chief counselor to each, have come together to form an uneasy but highly effective alliance, aimed at the eradication of all their rivals, including Grigor Andolov, Taylor Mason, Bryan Connerty, and Waylon "Jock" Jeffcoat. Ambition and betrayal have long been at the heart of BILLIONS, and this season all the characters find out exactly how high a price they'll have to pay to satisfy those needs. The series also stars David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Kelly AuCoin, Jeffrey DeMunn and Malin Akerman, along with new guest stars Samantha Mathis, Kevin Pollak, Jade Eshete and Nina Arianda. In the season opener, "Chucky Rhoades's Greatest Game," Axe closes ranks, determined to destroy Taylor. No longer U.S. Attorney, Chuck struggles to regain power. Taylor does what it takes to keep their new company afloat.

The fifth season of BILLIONS premiered on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at 9pm Et/PT on Showtime. In Season 5, Bobby Axelrod and Chuck Rhoades see their vicious rivalry reignited, while new enemies rise and take aim. Social impact pioneer Mike Prince (recurring guest star Corey Stoll) poses a true threat to Axe's dominance, and Chuck feuds with a formidable district attorney. Taylor Mason is forced back to Axe Capital, where Taylor must fight to protect their employees and their assets. Wendy Rhoades reevaluates her loyalties and forges surprising new alliances that put her at odds with both Chuck and Axe. Recurring guest star Julianna Margulies play Catherine Brant, an Ivy League sociology professor and bestselling author. After a three-month break, BILLIONS returned with new episodes on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime. In the second half of Season 5, the presence of powerful billionaire Mike Prince sends ripples through Axe Capital and gives Chuck Rhoades a potential new weapon in his fight against Bobby Axelrod. Alliances form, get ripped apart and form anew, and everyone from Taylor to Wendy gets roped into the conflict, which comes very close to destroying all they hold dear. Jeanane Garafolo will guest star as Winslow, the hip owner of a legal cannabis corp.

BILLIONS returned for its sixth season on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime. In Season 6 of BILLIONS, the dust of Season 5 clears to reveal a world that has evolved. With Axe gone and Michael Prince assuming his place, Chuck must develop a new strategy that is keener and more sophisticated than before. All the players, from Wags to Wendy, from Taylor to Sacker, and of course Senior, must sharpen their weapons and look for new alliances in order to survive. The ground is ever shifting and the stakes absolute. New king, new war, new rules. In the season opener, "Cannonade," Prince revamps the team in his image with mixed results, leading him to question if he wants to keep any of them at all. Chuck, clearing his head upstate, leads a crusade against a local blue blood. Meanwhile, Wags, Wendy and Taylor all try to wrap their heads around their new positions under Prince.

The 12-episode seventh and final season of BILLIONS premiered on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT on Showtime. During Season 7, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world. In the season opener, "Tower of London," Prince's political ambitions come with a surprising twist, and his intentions are met with skepticism; Wendy, Wags and Taylor turn to an old friend for guidance; Chuck aligns with an unlikely ally in hopes of leveraging his freedom.
