Plot Synopsis

Using archival video, never-before-seen footage, and first-person interviews with the subjects and their family, friends and peers, BEING documents the lives of famous music, TV and film stars. Narrated by first by hip-hop icon Big Daddy Kane, then actress Dawnn Lewis and later by the stars themselves, this series features artists telling viewers what it was like being them at different points in their careers and lives, capturing their world beyond the stage and the studio, digging deeper to showcase the triumphs, hopes, fears and what's next for them. Each one-hour episode of this weekly series features a different celebrity, including: Wendy Williams, Chaka Khan, Al Sharpton, Dionne Warwick, Donnie McClurkin, Ruben Studdard and more. Before BEING premiered as a weekly series on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, Centric had occasionally aired BEING as Centric-original documentaries from 2011 through 2013, featuring celebrities like R. Kelly, Gladys Knight, New Edition and more. BEING returned for its midseason premiere on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on Centric. Celebrities featured in Season 2 include Faith Evans (Aug 16), Deitrick Haddon (Aug 23), Common (Aug 30), Tamar Braxton (Sep 6), and MC Lyte (Sep 13). On Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT on Centric, BEING returned for its second season. In the Season 2 premiere, fans get the full picture of the Memphis-born singer K.Michelle, who was bred to be a 'rebellious soul.' Season 2 also features Erica Campbell (Jun 13), Kem, Tyrese, Iyanla Vanzant and Tamela Mann. After a two-month break, BEING returned with new episodes on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, highlighting the life and career of Kirk Franklin. BEING: KIRK FRANKLIN goes behind the scenes to introduce viewers to an abandoned child who endured many obstacles, but through God's grace, he was able to survive and become a testimony of triumph. A new season of BEING premiered on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on Centric, shortly after a 4.5-hour (Noon-4:30pm) mid-day marathon of encore episodes. The season opener featured music executive turned reality TV producing powerhouse Mona Scott-Young. Narrated by the stars themselves, each episode of the new season continued through April highlighting the careers of these seven notable women: LisaRaye McCoy, Terri J. Vaughn, Michelle Williams, Tasha Cobbs, Jasmine Guy, Eva Marcille, and Brandy. BEING returned with new episodes on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on Centric. The season opener featured the story of R&B star Kelly Price's personal life experiences, from performing at age six through her eighth studio album. The series continues throughout the summer highlighting the stories of Tweet, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Remy Ma, Naturi Naughton, Fantasia, Bern Nadette Stanis and Lisa Nicole Carson. BEING returned for a new season on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on Centric with an episode highlighting the career of R&B songstress Chrisette Michele, who addresses her controversial decision to perform at the 2017 Presidential Inaugural Ball, which thrust her into the national spotlight. In an intimate sit-down interview, Chrisette reveals her personal motivations and struggles in the face of incredible backlash. She also recounts her tumultuous journey to restore a love that was almost destroyed by the music industry. Subsequent episodes feature actress Elise Neal; gospel singer Kierra Sheard; multi-talented entertainer Vanessa Bell Calloway; R&B singer and personality KeKe Wyatt; and iconic soul vocalist India.Arie. On Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT, Centric debuted the summer premiere of the sixth season of BEING, with an episode that highlights the life and career of "da baddest" rapper Trina. Diamond Princess Trina AKA 'Da Baddest Bitch' is infamous for her jaw-dropping provocative raps, but the real Katrina Laverne Taylor is a shy, subdued southern belle who lives a life of seclusion. "BEING: Trina" is undoubtedly a story of juggling dualities, and learning that what you see is not always what you get. Subsequent episodes focus on: gospel superstar CeCe Winans; award-winning R&B singer Chante Moore; entrepreneur and television personality Tracey Edmonds; alluring actress Salli Richardson-Whitfield; and iconic singer/songwriter Tameka "Tiny" Harris (nee Cottle).
