Plot Synopsis

Experts travel the world to explore how mythical creatures would have looked, lived and behaved, and then they go into the Beast Lab to build the creature -- as initial sculpts, wire-frame forms and finally stunning 3D CGI. These experts rely on oral legend, historical records, archaeological findings, other physical evidence and their diverse backgrounds to assemble the most accurate picture possible. The experts are: Stephen Leonard, an adventurer and veterinary surgeon; Kathryn Denning, a myth expert, anthropologist, archaeologist and Professor at Toronto's York University; Scott Edwards, a Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology and Curator of Ornithology at the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University; Francis Manapul, a world-renowned comic book artist. Each episode focuses on a single creature, including: The Kraken, a terrifying multi-tentacled sea monster that snatches men from ships' decks and crushes entire vessels; Fire Dragon, a terrifying, fire-breathing dragon called Smok in the primeval forests of Poland; Megajaws, an all-seeing, all-knowing Shark God that can change shape at will and is called Dakuwaqa in Fiji; Winged Lion (a.k.a. Griffin), a massive, legendary creature with the head of an eagle, razor-sharp talons and the body of a gigantic lion; Wildman of Vietnam, a giant, hairy, bloodthirsty beast similar to North America's Bigfoot or Sasquatch; Bird Monster, a giant bird predator the size of a small airplane in the ancestral Navajo lands of New Mexico.
