Plot Synopsis

One family's fight for survival in a future dystopian Madrid illustrates the disparity between two worlds separated by a fence -- and so much more -- in the year 2045 after democracies have failed, governments are providing safety and law & order, and an pandemic rages. A lavish Sector 1 of Madrid is home to society's privileged, including government officials, while the rest of the population struggles in the subpar Sector 2. With a barrier separating the two sectors, one family attempts to recover Marta, an abused minor in the hands of the government. THE BARRIER had its U.S. premiere on Friday, September 11, 2020, as Netflix released the first episode. A new episode debuts each Friday through December 4.
