Plot Synopsis

BARGAIN BLOCK is a one-hour reality series that follows home renovation experts Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas fulfill their dream of restoring Motor City's iconic American neighborhoods one house at a time. With help from their friend -- lifetime Detroit resident and real estate expert Shea Hicks-Whitfield -- the couple buys as many rundown and abandoned houses as they can on a single block and then renovates them to make them appealing, yet affordable enough for buyers within the community. While working on each of the under-renovation properties, Keith, a designer, and Evan, a builder and carpenter, strip them to the studs to create affordable, stylish, fully furnished starter homes that are ideal for first-time homebuyers. As champions of the mantra, "everyone deserves good design," the duo infuses each renovation with artful and surprising aesthetics that uplift the rehabbed home and serve as an inspiration for other houses and homeowners on the block. In the series opener, "Desert Modern and Mid-Century Museum," Shea hosts an open house for Keith and Evan's first overhauled property on the neighborhood block, while the pair starts their next renovation a few doors down. Keith and Evan fully restore a dilapidated two-bedroom property into a stunning home with a modern theme that features warm colors, cozy furnishings and a huge main bedroom. Next, they reno a dark, dated three-bedroom house, giving it a mid-century vibe with colorful art and bold lighting on a shoestring budget.

The sophomore season of BARGAIN BLOCK debuted on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. The 10-episode second season continues to follow home renovation experts and partners Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas on their journey to restore Detroit's iconic American neighborhoods one house at a time. With sound advice and support from their friend -- lifetime Detroit resident and real estate expert Shea Hicks-Whitfield, who is expecting her first child -- Keith and Evan will buy multiple rundown and abandoned houses on a single block, take them down to the studs, and create affordable, stylish and fully furnished starter homes that are ideal for first-time homebuyers. Now settled in the Motor City, the couple, who have renovated and purchased their own home and opened a new retail store and workshop, infuse every property with a functional layout, artful design and beautiful repurposed furniture. To tackle the next round of renovations on the block, Keith and Evan buy two ramshackle neighboring houses that both present extensive water damage and sky-high trash heaps. Once the properties are restored, the duo gives them an elevated design, one with a Hamptons beach cottage vibe and the other with a swanky, moody art deco style.

Season 3 of BARGAIN BLOCK debuted on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. The 11 new episodes follow home renovation experts and partners Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas on their journey to restore Detroit's iconic American neighborhoods one house at a time. With sound advice and support from their friend -- lifetime Detroit resident and real estate expert Shea Hicks-Whitfield -- Keith and Evan buy multiple rundown and dilapidated houses on a single block, take them down to the studs, and create affordable, stylish and fully furnished starter homes that are ideal for first-time homebuyers. This season the couple will take on larger homes to renovate, as well as explore Detroit and the surrounding area to find inspiration and materials for themed home renos. They will visit iconic Detroit sites to get ideas for the Classic Detroit house, go camping to find unique ways to incorporate nature into the Forrest House and spend a day at an amusement park to spark ingenuity for the Physics House.

In the season opener, "Demolition Distress," Keith and Evan will buy three neighboring abandoned homes, deciding that the property in the best condition, a four bedroom/two bath house that needs extensive work to repair fire and water damage, is the perfect place to start. As they dig in to transform the cramped house into a light, bright traditional-style home with an open floorplan, the work will come to a screeching halt when a letter from the city states the home is slated for demolition.
