Plot Synopsis

Inspired by Armistead Maupin's "Tales of the City" book series. Mary Ann returns to present-day San Francisco for Anna Madrigal's 90th birthday party and is reunited with her daughter Shawna and ex-husband Brian -- 20 years after leaving them behind to pursue her career. Fleeing the midlife crisis that her picture-perfect Connecticut life created, Mary Ann is quickly drawn back into the orbit of Anna, her chosen family, and a new generation of queer young residents living at 28 Barbary Lane. Mary Ann decides to stay in San Francisco and tell Shawna the truth. Jake and Margot face a crossroads in their relationship. Anna meets a new man. On Friday, June 7, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the 10-episode limited series, executive produced by Armistead Maupin and Laura Linney.
