Plot Synopsis

ANCIENT IMPOSSIBLE reveals how many of the modern world's technological wonders were actually developed centuries ago. From warships mightier than an aircraft carrier, bridges bigger than the Golden Gate and monuments more enormous than Mount Rushmore, this one-hour series travels through history to explore innovations so far ahead of their time, that they're still in use today. Each 60-minute episode focuses on a different theme, including: "Ultimate Weapons," which chronicles how ancient humans created weapons of mass destruction, including death rays; "Moving Mountains," which reveals technologies capable of moving and building massive structures; and much more ancient engineering feats.

On Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, H2 aired the season finale of ANCIENT IMPOSSIBLE. The season ender, "Extreme Engineering," chronicles how the ancients created incredible structures to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles, using engineering methods that seem more modern than most would imagine. This episodes seeks answers to how the ancients used engineering to solve these problems: How did they get troops across a nearly 4,000 foot river? How do you get oil from the ground without the use of modern drilling techniques? And how did they build a water tank which contained 3 million cubic feet of water, enough to provide for an entire city? What ingenious techniques did Caesar use to assemble a bridge to cross the Rhine, in only 10 days?
