Plot Synopsis

AMERICA'S WILD FRONTIER is a five-episode documentary series that tells the story of the frontier and wildlife closest to America's heart, revealing a cast of critter characters that includes everything from bears, bison and burrowing owls, to weasels, wood ducks and wild horses. The series opener, "The Mighty Mississippi," explores America's center, where the Mississippi, the Missouri and the Ohio rivers combine their strength and transform into a behemoth that splits the nation. Thousands of snow geese arrive with winter, and river otters hunt within breaks in the ice. Other episodes reveal the animals found in these regions: where Wild Bill Hickok saw his last sunset in The Badlands of South Dakota; the woods that Davy Crocket once called home in The Great Valley of Appalachia; the ice sheets in the Land of Lakes; and down on the farm, where people and animals in the heartland often share a life fraught with risk and danger.
