Plot Synopsis

VICE PRESENTS: AMERICA ON DRUGS is a one-hour docuseries that explores how illegal drugs affect various locations in the United States, and tells the story of users who are trying to overcome their addiction. Each 60-minute episode focuses on a different drug and its impact on a different American city, including:

"Flakka's $5 Insanity": Coined "five-dollar insanity," in 2014, a powerful new street drug called "Flakka," flooded the streets of South Florida. Over the next year, this highly-addictive drug would cause its users to exhibit extreme, often public, acts of erratic behavior and symptoms of dementia and psychosis. Broward County alone experienced more than 60 deaths to date and received several Flakka-related emergency response calls each day. This installment follows the story of current and recovering Flakka users as they struggle with addiction and the lingering effects of their drug use.

"Heroin Highway": Heroin abuse in Chicago's affluent suburbs is reaching epidemic proportions, and the area's Eisenhower Expressway has become known as the "Heroin Highway" for all the smack that flows through it. This episode looks at the lives of three addicts who have been caught up in clutches of what is increasingly a middle class nightmare: Kesha, who's newly sober but dealing with the wreckage that years of addiction have caused; Josh, who's checking into detox for what he hopes is the last time; and Matt, who's struggling to stay clean while waiting for a bed in a halfway house.
