Plot Synopsis

ALMOST ROYAL is a half-hour comedy series that follows two young British aristocrats, siblings Georgie and Poppy Carlton, on their first trip to the United States, as they interact with real-life, unsuspecting Americans. Georgie and Poppy are heirs to Caunty Manor, a large country estate in Norfolk, England, where they have enjoyed privileged lives as distant descendants of the British Royal Family. They have agreed to have a camera crew follow them on an unofficial royal tour of the United States of America. While also commemorating their late father, Lord Carlton, the road trip provides the sheltered siblings an opportunity to spread their wings and see the world. Georgie and Poppy have never worked a day in their lives, driven themselves anywhere or solved any problem more complex than telling their butler to tell their cook what they want for lunch. Now, they're about to have their silver spoons plucked from their mouths and their thrones pulled right out from under them. Georgie is using the trip around America as a way to become more manly in order to take on the responsibilities of Caunty Manor and live up to his father's legacy. Meanwhile, Poppy has high hopes of finding fame as a pop star/actor/author/lifestyle guru/cookery host, even though she doesn't have a scrap of talent. In each 30-minute episode, these royal siblings visit a different locale in the United States, including: Los Angeles, where they meet with some Hollywood movers and shakers in an attempt to launch Poppy's acting career after a consultation with a plastic surgeon; Boston, where they learn about the British humiliation in the Revolutionary War, come away parched from a Tea Party meeting, and attempt to rewrite history during a battle re-enactment; Texas, where they record their own Tejano music, bid at an auction for cattle semen, and are thrown in the air by a team of cheerleaders; New York, where a local hipster in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood introduces them to the art of proper coffee making; and other American cities, like Detroit and Washington D.C. Season 2 of ALMOST ROYAL premiered on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 11pm-Midnight ET/PT, as BBC America premiered back-to-back new episodes. In the eight-episode second season, British aristocrats Georgie and Poppy Carlton make their triumphant return to the United States to more closely examine the subjects that define American life. The Carlton siblings are leaving their ancestral home and hitting the road as investigative journalists (and hopeful YouTube stars), documenting every step of their intrepid journey across the country via Poppy's YouTube channel, Poppy Culture. With the help of some celebrity experts, including fashion designer Whitney Port, basketball legend Dennis Rodman and restaurateur (and reigning queen....of the REAL HOUSEWIVES) Lisa Vanderpump, Georgie and Poppy explore the long-standing traditions and some more modern customs of the American people -- showing the world what America looks like from the point of view of British (almost) Royalty. In the season opener (11pm), "Beauty," Poppy and Georgie are looking at the art of beauty, as the visit a school to learn to execute the perfect blow-dry, judge a beautiful baby competition and selflessly contribute to world peace by taking part in a beauty pageant. American TV host Mario Lopez is on hand to answer the siblings' questions on every aspect of beauty. Then, in the night's second new episode (11:30pm), "The Great Outdoors," the Carltons explore the great outdoors, which sees them getting up close and very personal with some Floridian wildlife, hiking a trail with some real Americans, saving lives on a popular beach and finally sharing their own very particular brand of empathy with a group of protesters. Broadway star and actress Laura-Bell Bundy is helping the aristocrats to clear up any and all misunderstandings.

On Monday, February 8, 2016 from 11pm-Midnight ET/PT, BBC America premiered the Season 2 finale of ALMOST ROYAL, showing back-to-back new episodes. The night's first episode (11pm), "Work," sees the siblings taking on the alien world of work, starting with a consultation on how to create the perfect resume, then cooking up a storm in an American diner, before taking to the city streets as drivers for rideshare company Lyft. The episode also includes the Carlton's attending a job fair to show off their new skills and make an inspirational speech. TV star and entrepreneur Lisa Vanderpump is on hand for advice. Then, in the season finale (11:30pm), "Holiday," Poppy and Georgie immerse themselves in American holidays, learning about the lovely pre-Christmas event that is Thanksgiving by attending and giving a speech at a parade before making themselves at home with a host family who are kind enough to offer them dinner. They also attend Tu Bishvat, Groundhog Day and steal the show in an elaborate production of the Nativity. TV personality and fashion designer Whitney Port is on hand to help them through the festive maze.
