Plot Synopsis

Created by Carolina Rivera, AGAINST THE ROPES is a 40-minute dramedy series that centers on Angela, who, after being released from prison, tries to regain the respect of her daughter, who loves lucha libre wrestling, by entering the ring as a mysterious persona named Novia Negra. After spending six years in prison for a crime she did not commit, Angela finds a job quickly after getting out of prison, but she makes enemies even quicker when she discovers wrestler Dulce has taken her role as Rocio's mom. Motivated to reconnect with her daughter, Angela takes it upon herself to begin her training. After a family outing goes wrong, Rocio becomes the school's laughingstock and blames her mom. Then, Angela and her colleagues enlist Betty's help to craft their wrestling personas for an event at Rocio's school. The entire 10-episode first season of AGAINST THE ROPES dropped on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 on Netflix.
