Plot Synopsis

Hosted by David Banner (Season 4) and Omari Hardwick (Seasons 1-3), ABFF INDEPENDENT is weekly two-hour program that showcases independent shorts, feature films and documentaries from emerging black artists. After premiering on the same day as the launch of ASPiRE, a new African-American television network from Magic Johnson Enterprises, this series moved to its regular time slot on Mondays at 8pm the following week. ABFF INDEPENDENT returned for its third season on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 8pm ET on ASPiRE. The season opener, "A Family Affair," featured eight new works in a single episode, including "Little Boy Wonder" (by host Omari Hardwick), which is a moving tribute to Trayvon Martin performed through poetry by Hollywood talent: Hardwick, Marlon Wayans, Gary Dourdan, David Oyelowo, Eriq La Salle, and Bill Duke. "A Family Affair" also featured heartwarming stories of love between a father and son; sacrifice between a husband and wife; anger between a mother and daughter, absence between a mother and son and tenderness between the people we call family.
