This Monday night, August 25, 2014 from 5-8pm PT / 8-11pm ET on NBC, television celebrates its best and brightest when the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences hands out its golden trophies at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, live from the Nokia Theater L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.

Hosting the festivities this year is late-night talk-show host Seth Meyers, who is hosting the Primetime Emmy telecast for the first time. In an interview with "Entertainment Weekly," he warned, "I'm going to spoil stuff. It's not my job on a night when we're honoring television to keep the secrets of the shows that people haven't had the energy to watch. It's the summer, there's not a lot of television on right now. Catch up, watch everything, because I don't want to hear afterward that you're halfway through Season 2 of BREAKING BAD."

  • E! COUNTDOWN TO THE RED CARPET: The 2014 Primetime Emmy® Awards, with hosts Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne, and George Kotsiopoulos, airs live from 1:30 – 3pm PT / 4:30 – 6pm ET on E!
  • E! LIVE FROM THE RED CARPET: The 2014 Primetime Emmy® Awards, with hosts Giuliana Rancic and Ross Matthews, airs live from 3 – 5pm PT / 6 – 8pm ET on E!. Additionally, Kelly Osbourne and Kristin Dos Santos are in E!'s Skybox to provide commentary on trends on the red carpet.
  • BACKSTAGE LIVE!, with host Mark Istook, streams live from 3 – 5pm PT / 6 – 8pm ET at Emmys.com.
  • THE 66TH PRIMETIME EMMY® RED CARPET SPECIAL, with host Billy Bush, airs live from 4:30 - 5pm PT / 7:30 - 8pm ET on NBC. Bush is joined by Entertainment Reporter Shaun Robinson and Style Reporter Louise Roe.  Plus, celebs will stop by the pre-show and the host willl click on the star’s name. The star then shakes the device and one of the pre-loaded questions for that particular person will appear.  Then the star will tape their quick video response to the question and that gets loaded onto ACCESS HOLLYWOOD's Facebook page, where fans can post questions before the event.

 

 

 

The EMMYS (Monday, LIVE on NBC starting at 5pm PT / 8pm ET)

  • Fans at home can get an exclusive look at everything that is happening behind the scenes of television’s biggest night: “Backstage LIVE” is a free “all access pass” to the Emmys, streaming simultaneously to the live telecast, which can be streamed at Emmys.com, NBC.com or Yahoo.com.
  • During the live telecast, the Emmys will feature a number of special tributes, such as:
    • Billy Crystal's Tribute to Robin Williams during "In Memoriam": Screen legend Billy Crystal will pay tribute to his longtime friend Robin Williams during the show's "In Memoriam" segment. Recently deceased actor and stand-up star Williams is one of the many late members of the television community who will be honored during that time, which will also feature a musical performance by Grammy-nominated recording artist Sara Bareilles.

FIRST TIME EMMY AWARDS ARE TELEVISED NATIONALLY

  • On Monday, March 7, 1955, the Seventh Annual Emmy Awards are broadcast nationally on NBC from the Moulin Rouge in Hollywood and Nino's LaRue in New York.
  • NBC paid $110,000 for the rights to telecast the 1955 telecast across the nation, airing the show simultaneously on both coasts.
  • 1955 Emmy Hosts: Steve Allen from Hollywood; Dave Garroway from New York.
  • U.S. television-set ownership in 1955: 25 million.

2014 EMMYS GOVERNORS BALL

At the Governors Ball in the gigantic West Hall of the L.A. Convention Center, 30,000 LEDs will bathe more than 3,800 diners in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple light throughout the 20,000-square foot hall. Plus, the center of the room will showcase an elevated, revolving circular grand stage that features vocalist Judith Hill (backed by The Red Hot Band) and dance-team Extreme Beam. On the south end of the ballroom, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy dancers will perform to beats spun by DJ CoryLive. And String Theory, a hybrid performance ensemble, will use two gigantic harps and a cyclodrum sculpture, comprised of 26 drums hovering 10 feet off the ground. Drawing from this year's theme, Kaleidoscope of Color, Joachim Splichal, Chef and Founder of Patina Restaurant Group, has designed a three-course menu, with over 700 waiters presenting his guests with dishes that celebrate nature's vibrant colors.
