Plot Synopsis

In 1945, a 10 year old boy and his single mother are en route to a quiet Georgia town when she disappears. Two employees of the local bus depot look after the child, who grows up in the community using silence as a survival technique-- he pretends to be deaf and mute to encourage sympathy from the townsfolk. However, 20 years later the ruse may allow him to foil his childhood tormentor-the snotty son of the town's leading family-who plans to embezzle funds from the local church.
