Plot Synopsis
Based on the 1969 novel by Joyce Carol Oates. After their only teenage daughter is raped and her attacker goes unpunished a seemly perfect family is torn apart. Over the three years that follow, relationships deteriorate... with Mom taking comfort in religion, alienating her angry teenage sons while Dad drowns his rage in alcohol. As they become further estranged from one another in a downward spiral of anguish and loss the family ultimately falls apart and only the death of a family member eventually reunites them.
