Plot Synopsis

Literature professor Amy Winslow specializes in crime fiction at Elmstead College in the Pacific Northwest, and after years of teaching her Mystery 101 class she's become an expert in figuring out whodunnit. She soon meets, Detective Travis Cole who arrives on campus to investigate the theft of a genetically engineered plant worth millions from the Life Science Lab. Though Travis can't divulge details about the theft, he and Amy do engage in playful banter while she waits for a student who doesn't show. Suspecting the girl has boyfriend trouble, Amy is worried, especially when she receives a disturbing call from her student and the phone goes dead. Now the fictional crime professor fears she's going to need to investigate a real crime. Not only has her student disappeared, but also the girl's boyfriend is found dead, and her colleague, whose office overlooks the science lab, suddenly commits suicide. As she figures out who's behind her student's disappearance and the two deaths, she also discovers who stole the plant, and inadvertently puts herself in danger. Now Travis must do some quick sleuthing himself, or the romance that was blooming with the Mystery 101 professor could quickly die on the vine.
