Plot Synopsis

Based on the novel by Chris Bohjalian. On stormy night in a rural Vermont a dedicated midwife helps a women deliver her second child. Complications ensue and the mother dies during an emergency Caesarean section. Days later, questions arise as to whether the woman died before the operation or as a result of it, forcing the midwife to face an involuntary manslaughter trial that not only threatens to destroy her practice, but also her family and her own belief of what really happened that night.
