Plot Synopsis

Based on the novel by Sue Monk Kidd. A middle aged woman whose daughter has recently left for college finds herself restless and unfilled in her 20 year marriage. Forced to return to childhood home, a tiny barrier reef island off the coast of South Carolina, to care for her mentally troubled mother she soon meets and falls in love with a Benedictine monk. As the relationship unfolds she unlocks the roots of her mother's tormented past and the secrets surrounding her father's death while undergoing a spiritual, artistic and erotic awakening that changes her life forever.
