Plot Synopsis

Eighth installment in the Hailey Dean mystery franchise based on characters from Nancy Grace's series of Hailey Dean mystery books. Just four months after being paroled for killing his wife, Clayton Morrel's memoir is coming out, and it has both Hailey Dean and the D.A. she assisted in prosecuting the case, Paulina D'Orazio, more than a bit unnerved. Paulina now feels guilty for accepting a plea of manslaughter instead of holding out for first degree murder, but she didn't want Morrel to walk free if the jury bought his tale of accidental death. The night before his big book signing he is stabbed to death in his home. When Paulina is named the prime suspect, Hailey and detective Fincher Garland are certain she is innocent and set out to find the real killer in order to exonerate Paulina. They learn that it is going to be a tall order to shift focus from Paulina after finding out that she has been obsessively watching Morrel since his parole. And when the murder weapon turns up in her car, her fate is all but sealed. But there are others with the motive, means and opportunity to kill Morrel, and using her uncanny ability to read people, Hailey leaves no stone unturned as she works to find the evidence needed to prove someone else is the killer. Before she can bring the killer to justice, however, another murder is committed, and Hailey returns to the scene of Morrel's death where, face-to-face with his killer, she may well be the third victim in this tragic tale of revenge gone wrong.
