Plot Synopsis

In Georgia, A boy becomes attached to a chestnut colt owned by a neighboring farmer. While the horse is for sale, the boy's financially strapped father can ill afford the animal. He buys it anyway and soon leaves for a job as a merchant marine while Mom toils at a local textile mill. When money gets tight he must sell his beloved horse to the mill's despicable owner. The lad steals the abused horse back and heads to New York to reunite with his father. Along the way both horse and rider must evade the authorities.
