Plot Synopsis

Shortly after returning to her Minnesota hometown to take over her grandpa's veterinary practice, Dr. Carly Monroe, begins volunteering at Forever Friends, the town's animal shelter, which is headed by brother and sister Dan and Michelle Landis. Dan is a true dog lover and his knack for matching dogs with owners has made Forever Friends a big success. Things are a bit uncomfortable between Carly and Dan at first; they were high school sweethearts who simply lost touch when they each went their separate ways for college. When Dan's girlfriend, local news reporter, Kristi Waters, gets a job in New York and announces that Dan will be going with her and that they will be married, Michelle hatches a plot to keep her brother in town and out of Kristi's clutches. She knows Kristi is all wrong for Dan. It's obvious to her that there's still an attraction between Dan and Carly so she's determined to help them see it as well. While Dan remains oblivious to Michelle's plan to get him and Carly together, he does a little matchmaking himself when Carly's grandpa and a local widow, Mrs. Gilbert both become interested in adopting the same dog from the shelter. Carly soon realizes that she's never really got over Dan while he discovers a very ugly truth about Kristi and makes the decision he's known he should have all along. And there, amidst the crowd of orphan dogs finding families, and people uniting with their new best friends, a scruffy little mutt named Beasley finds her new home with Carly and Dan, as the three Forever Friends embark on a bright and happy future together.
