Plot Synopsis
Based on the book by Dorothy Allison. In 1950's South Carolina, a young girl's life is changed forever when her widowed mother marries an unstable and abusive man who begins to beat and molest her. Her mother eventually takes her to live with her sister, refusing to leave her violent husband. When her Aunt dies, the girl returns to the torment she thought she had left behind. After almost being killed by her stepfather's physical and sexually abuse the distraught child decides to leave home when her mother still professes love for the monstrous man.
